Hello! I’m Alex, a third year Biology student and I’m excited to be Breakaway’s President this year. Somewhat ironically, I’m from Norfolk – the UK’s flattest county – but I fell in love with hillwalking when I joined the club in first year. If you’re considering joining the club, do give it a go - you might (like me) discover you absolutely love hiking! The past two years as fresher’s rep and then kit officer have been fantastic – from snowball battles and bonfires to summer scrambles and eagle/frog/lizard spotting! Looking forward to meeting you all!
Hey! I'm Gabby, a third year studying Geography and Earth Science. I'm super excited to be your Vice President this year! I first joined Breakaway to see more of Scotland and it has been an amazing experience with the best people. I've made fantastic memories with Breakaway, from ceilidhing to doing yoga on munros. I can't recommend joining this society enough!
Hi! I'm Louise, a fifth-year Theoretical Physics student, and I am looking forward to being the secretary for a second year in a row! This means many more glorious emails will be coming your way, and a great attempt will be made this year at no spelling mistakes, though I can't guarantee... I've been in Breakaway since I joined uni, and it's one of the best decisions I've made, so if you're planning on joining, I couldn't recommend it more. Breakaway is much more than hiking — from its pub socials to its Breakaway runs, which some say is the best run club in St Andrews. I look forward to meeting you all!
Hi I’m Ella-Malaika, a fourth year geography student! I’ve lived in Scotland my whole life and love exploring my home along coastal paths and up Munros alike. The community in Breakaway is truly so special, and I’m excited to chat with you around a pint in the hostel or on the trail!
Hello! I'm Archie, a fourth-year Economics student and this year's breakaway Trip Secretary. Despite being Scottish born and bred, I'd barely scratched the surface of this country until I joined Breakaway — turns out I needed a club to make me actually go and look at my own back garden. Now I can't get enough of it.I have enjoyed every minute of being part of breakaway, and for that reason I would encourage everyone who is even slightly interested in hiking, the outdoors or simply seeing different parts of Scotland to join as well.

If I am not hiking somewhere, you can always find me in the pub on Bell Street, should you wish to chat about Breakaway, Ale or anything else really!
Hello, I am Katharina, a forth year International Relations student and I am thrilled to be your Health and Safety Officer this year. I have been part of Breakaway since I started my studies in St Andrews and since there is no society more welcoming to everybody. I am very proud to be part of this community. I am looking forward to many more adventures with all of you!
Hi! I’m Finlay, a fifth-year Maths student, and I’m excited to be Breakaway’s Route Planner this year! Having grown up near the Scottish Highlands, I’ve completed nearly 200 of Scotland’s Munros, so I’m no stranger to planning routes, long days in the hills, and convincing myself that the weather will probably improve! I’ve also been lucky enough to hike abroad, with trips to Norway last year and Tanzania this year. Breakaway has been one of my favourite parts of university. I’ve met a great group of people and had the chance to see some incredible views, so I’m really looking forward to helping plan more great walks this year (and hopefully keeping everyone on the correct side of the mountain!).
Hello! I'm Luca, and I'm a fourth year Biology and Earth Sciences student from Yorkshire. I love camping, backpacking and spending as much time outdoors as possible. This year I'm excited to plan our annual Breakaway Boots Ball (get hyped) and Christmas Dinner as Events Rep, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all out on the hills!
Hi, I’m Riley, a second-year Computer Science student from the Scottish Borders, and I’m excited to be your Social Rep this year! During my time at uni, Breakaway has been my favourite part, leading to many Munros being bagged and many Tennent’s being drunk. I’m looking forward to making this year just as memorable and hopefully getting plenty more people involved!
Hey everyone! I’m Mary, a third-year English Lit student, and am thrilled to be back on committee for my second year. I’ll be crafting up all our posts on socials this year – so I must apologise in advance if I approach you with a mini-mic on the trails! Breakaway is truly one of the best parts about life in St Andrews, and has given me some of my most cherished uni memories. I can’t wait to make more with you this year – rain or shine!
Hi, I’m Genevieve and I’m so excited to be your master of merch for this year! I am going into second year and i study geography and economics. I absolutely loved being part of breakaway in my first year at St Andrews, my favourite moments were the sunsets in Aviemore and Boots Ball. I can’t wait to design and sell Breakaway merchandise this year so find me at socials plus lots of other events to get your hands on some!
Hello, my name is Nathan! I study Environmental Earth Science and I am in my 3rd year. I am from Edinburgh, and I am an avid hiker. I have done many munros, and hiked to the top of Africa.
Hello! I am Ed, a 4th year Environmental Earth Scientist. I am thrilled to be Ed chef this year ! I will be planning and organising our dinners on residentials. When I am not hiking or untangling the Earth system you can find me on the hockey pitch, walking down one of the many beaches in St Andrews or filling my freezer with loads of prepped dinners. Breakaway has been one of the best parts of my uni experience, from the breath-taking views to meeting many wonderful people. I look forward to meeting you all soon!
Hi, I'm a highland cow and I love Breakaway! I really like the Scottish Highlands and seeing them from the snuggly comfort of a friendly hillwalker's backpack. Sometimes it's difficult to see though, with all my hair getting in the way. When I'm not seeing the Highlands, I live with the social reps who take occasionally lose me on island camping trips?
Moooooo.
